Maria Hinojosa is an award-winning journalist who has reported for PBS, CBS, WGBH, CNN, WNBC and NPR. She anchored and produced the Peabody Award-winning Latino USA, distributed by PBS. She has won four Emmys and the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism.

In Once I was You, Maria chronicles growing up with her family in Hyde Park as a Mexican immigrant and daughter of University of Chicago professor Dr. Raul Hinojosa. She goes on to examine US immigration policy through her own life and the lives of those whom she encounters as a journalist.
