Exploring the University of Chicago's History through the Library's Map CollectionExploring the University of Chicago's History through the Library's Map CollectionThe Library invites you to a special lecture featuring Mindy Schwartz, Professor of Medicine at the Pritzker School of Medicine; Cecilia Smith, GIS and Map Librarian; and Ashton Hicks, Hanna Holborn Gray Graduate Student Fellow for GIS.Schwartz, Smith, and Hicks have partnered to develop a history of the University of Chicago and its surrounding neighborhoods through the University's Map Collection. The collaboration was inspired by Schwartz’s work to share and celebrate the historical development of the Medical Campus through walking tours. With over 475,000 maps, the Collection provides a rich variety of geographies and topics to explore. The exhibit is presented online and its interactive components will offer opportunities to study the University's campus and watch the University grow year-on-year alongside interesting details, including the buildings' architects and year of construction. Notable faculty and alumni will be highlighted in each department. The University of Chicago Medicine Tour is the first story map to explore the rich history of our campus.Tuesday, June 23 at 7:00pm (Central Time)To register for this webinar, please follow the link below.https://uchicago.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_rFIMDADxQqWMLOzLsfPBKwAfter registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.
