In celebration of Black History Month, The Hyde Park Historical Society Presents “ ’63 Boycott: A Conversation with Prof. Timuel D. Black Jr.” on Sunday, February 21 at 3:00PM CST. Joining Prof. Black to help facilitate the conversion is Ingrid Wallace who was a student of Prof. Black while attending Hyde Park High School during the Chicago Public School Boycotts. On Freedom Day, October 22, 1963 over 200,000 Chicagoans boycotted Chicago Public Schools. The protest sought to eliminate the segregationist policies of Superintendent Benjamin Willis. Join us to learn more about the how the boycott played out on the ground and the results of sustained protect against the racist policies of the CPS.
